Hold My Hand

The waters that my boat has been sailing in tonight have been rough. I thought it was all going fairly smoothly until one seemingly benign–polite, even–act crashed through my heart, shattering it and… Read More

A Love Story

Today was Valentine’s Day. Today was a good day. That second statement is important because, historically speaking, it has not always been true. In fact, last year, I accidentally forgot what day it… Read More

Zeus on Love

“According to Greek mythology, humans were originally created with 4 arms, 4 legs and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning them to spend… Read More

The Mad Tea

Even if we don’t admit it, we all run from something.   Sometimes, we run from the past. Sometimes, we run from the future we can’t control. Sometimes we run from intimacy (I… Read More

Beauty and the Beast

“Who’s your favorite princess?” This is a game we play fairly frequently, and it deserves proper time and consideration.  Alight, my youngest daughter, loves the Princesses.  There is no quick answers to this… Read More

Message from God

I’d fallen out of the habit of clicking on the Facebook app, “Message from God.”   I don’t want to think too deeply about the reasons why because I might lose sight of what… Read More

Forgetting Valentine’s

Unbelievable as it may be,  I forgot that today was Valentine’s Day.  I know, so awful.  Perhaps the forgetting was a bit deliberate this year:  if I forget about it, I don’t have… Read More

  • Stories That Matter

Stores that matter are stories that make me feel, invigorate me or serve as a call to action for me. Stories that matter are stories that awaken my spirit to issues, be they spiritual, emotional, moral, social or a combination. Stories that matter are stories that call all my emotions into play: sadness, anger, grief, happiness, despair, joy, etc. Stories that make me think. Stories that provide me with indulgences, like romance, but that, at their core, have something important to say. Some stories are written with the intent of providing the reader with an escape from real life; stories that matter, however, are written to make readers --more aware-- of reality; to provoke compassion and empathy, love and hate, anger and grief. Stories that matter are the occurrences, catastrophes, triumphs, frustrations and joys of every day life: welcome to my collection of thoughts, feelings, idiosyncrasies, hopes and dreams---collectively known as Stories that Matter.
