Gas Station Treasures

There’s a fella I want to spend some time recognizing tonight.   His name is Art.  He works the morning/afternoon shift at the local Shell station near our house.  He is a… Read More

The Weird Me

Granted,  my social life is practically non-existent but my girls and I do get out and about a lot.  When we’re out and about, I see other grown-ups and even though I try… Read More

Honkin’ Cow is Fun!

“HOOONKIN COW!” This is my youngest daughter’s favorite phrase.  I have absolutely no idea where it came from, but she shouts it whenever she is really excited about something.  “Alight,  we get… Read More

A Day With My Characters

At one of the online writing haunts I visit (my “bar” of choice),  someone on a thread started a really, really fun discussion.  We were to imagine that we woke up one… Read More

Girls!

When my oldest daughter, Breathe, was five, she was convinced that girls could not be doctors.   She’d been around several doctors her entire life.   As an infant, she underwent surgery on her skull. … Read More

O’Charley’s Recipe For Life

Yesterday, my sister and I went to eat lunch at O’Charleys.   As I walked from my car to the front door,  I saw their  decorative road signage.  One of the “street names”  caught… Read More

I’m Balancing Life, Who Needs Exercise?

  • Stories That Matter

Stores that matter are stories that make me feel, invigorate me or serve as a call to action for me. Stories that matter are stories that awaken my spirit to issues, be they spiritual, emotional, moral, social or a combination. Stories that matter are stories that call all my emotions into play: sadness, anger, grief, happiness, despair, joy, etc. Stories that make me think. Stories that provide me with indulgences, like romance, but that, at their core, have something important to say. Some stories are written with the intent of providing the reader with an escape from real life; stories that matter, however, are written to make readers --more aware-- of reality; to provoke compassion and empathy, love and hate, anger and grief. Stories that matter are the occurrences, catastrophes, triumphs, frustrations and joys of every day life: welcome to my collection of thoughts, feelings, idiosyncrasies, hopes and dreams---collectively known as Stories that Matter.
